Akihabara - Center of Sub-Culture / High rents for residential properties

Akihabara is located just 2 kilo meters north of Tokyo Station. It is the center of sub-culture in Japan, where you can encounter anime and manga goods and events. You find maid dressed girls standing on streets to lead you to maid café. Akibahara is also known as Electronic City.

There are hundreds of shops, ranging from small papa/mama shops to mega shops with 10 plus floors. You can find exactly what you need for video games, cameras, PCs, TVs, and audios.

There are many train lines going through Akihabara. In JR train station, KeihinTohoku Line, Yamanote Line, Soubu Line and Chuo Line are available. Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line runs in the subway. You can have a direct access to any place in metropolitan areas. Tsukuba Express Line provides fast and direct access to Tsukuba areas.

Looking at the residential property market data, some conclusive features are perceived.

As the area around the station, within 5 or less minute walking distance, is the commercial area, residential rental supply is rather limited. Rents are high, far above the average in Tokyo. Strong rental demand, comes particularly from sub-culture fans, but also from the people seeking for easier commuting within Tokyo. There are more supply of studio type or one bedroom type RC property than larger ones or wooden ones.
